LIVING IN THE PAST episode 6

 Gregor and Emily were a beautiful couple to see. Everyday that went by, they loved each other more and made plans for the future. They were very happy together. Until two months to Emily's wedding, when Alex, Emily's would be husband, found out about Emily's relationship with Gregor.

"How could you do this?" shouted Alex. "What have I done to deserve this?" "You have always known that I don't love you," answered Emily. "And you have to rub it on my face?" asked Alex. "Well, what do you expect?" asked Emily. "When you, a man that is 40 years of age, connived with a father to marry his 18 years old daughter for business benefit. You don't even care if the girl is in love with you. That's enough reason for me to hate you. Do you think I'll ever prefer you over Gregor? Never! Gregor loves and respects me just the way I am." "Shut up," shouted Alex as he placed a slap on her face. "There's no need talking to you," Alex concluded. Your father must hear of this. He will have your brain reset." "No, no, please don't tell him," pleaded Emily. "If you have anything against me then man up and talk to me. Not my father." Alex was far gone before she was done talking.

Emily was so scared but hoped that Alex would have a change of heart and not tell her father. Alex did as he had threatened to do. Mr. Charles was so furious that he had Gregor captured and scourged. Emily wept bitterly as her father made her watch Gregor being scourged but couldn't do anything because she was tied up. After the scourging, Mr. Charles ordered the release of Gregor but threatened to do more next time if Gregor does not stay away from Emily. 

Gregor was severely bruised but that didn't stop him from loving Emily. They kept on seeing each other but this time, more secretly. Pretty found out after some time that they were still seeing each other. She became jealous. Emily noticed that Pretty was jealous especially when she shared things about her relationship with Gregor with her. So Emily asked her if she was still in love with Gregor but she denied it. They got into an argument and fought. They stopped seeing each other. Pretty informed Alex secretly that Emily and Gregor were still seeing each other. Mr Charles had Gregor scourged again but this time he almost died. Mr. Leonard was so angry but couldn't do anything since he's just a poor man. He instead, warned Gregor to end his relationship with Emily that it would only bring him harm. But Gregor was persistent. Mr Charles went as far as sending thugs to destroy Mr. Leonard's poultry and make sure nothing is left of it. He met with Alex and they decided to move the wedding closer to a month to come so as to prevent more surprises. He also forced Emily to move in with Alex in other to keep a close eye on her and kept her from going out or meeting up with Gregor. Emily had no idea that Pretty had betrayed her. All she knew was that her father and Alex were always one step ahead.

Meanwhile, Oliver had been secretly in love with Pretty all this while but said nothing to anyone. Not even Gregor knew about it. Oliver finally was courageous enough to approach Pretty and confessed his feelings to her. At first, Pretty wanted nothing to do with him but after thinking about it, she decided to take advantage of his feelings. So she agreed to become Oliver's girlfriend on the condition that it would remain a secret between the two of them for the time being. 

With Oliver's help, Gregor opened a little chicken house in front of his house which his father took care of everyday. Two days later, Oliver came running to Gregor's house in the afternoon shouting, "Finally, finally my friend, we got the admission into the university. We can finally study and become doctors.", Gregor was very happy to hear this. Emily also got an admission as well as Pretty. Though Emily was living sadly because she barely goes out of the house. Pretty came visiting one day and Emily pleaded with her to deliver some letters to Gregor. Pretty promised to deliver them but instead she read them and trashed them. And then she reported to Emily that Gregor said he's no longer interested in her. Meanwhile Gregor wasn't even aware of Emily's where about. Pretty took the opportunity to make advances at Gregor but he paid no attention.  Mr. Leonard pleaded with Oliver to always take care of Gregor as he is Gregor's only trusted friend. Oliver swore with his life to remain a friend indeed.

 On the appointed day, Emily went to visit Gregor but asked Pretty to accompany her so as to appear decent. When she arrived, Gregor was very happy to see her. They haven't seen each other for a while. They were no longer attending lessons; they had written their SSCE and were prepping for JAMB. Gregor hugged Emily warmly and invited them into the house.  One hot afternoon, Oliver went to Gregor's house and they were having a conversation in the sitting room when suddenly Emily ran into the house, quickly shut the door and bolted it. Gregor and Oliver were both alerted and surprised. Happily, Gregor rose to his feet and gave her a big hug. "Sit down here," Gregor said as he offered her a sit. Then Gregor asked her, "Where have you been and who is chasing you?"  Surprisingly Emily asked, "Didn't Pretty tell you? I sent her to you." "No she didn't," replied Gregor. "Strange," exclaimed Emily. "Well I was under house arrest. Not by the police but by Alex. I just escaped from the house." She paused, caught her breath and continued. "Please Gregor," she said. "I don't want to go back to that house. Otherwise in two weeks time, my father will sell me off to Alex in the name of marriage." "And I wouldn't let you go back there either,"...

 The next day, Oliver and Gregor were hanging out together. Oliver was cracking jokes that amuses Gregor and makes him laugh. But this time around the case was different. Gregor was absent minded. He had so much sorrow in his eyes. Oliver had never seen his friend so sad before. So he had to ask, "what's wrong, Gregor? You seem lost in thoughts." Gregor had tears in his eyes as he tried to speak up. He's hands were a bit sweaty and shaky. Then he said, "My friend, I found out yesterday that Emily is getting married in 4 months or less."
